Chiang Mai Creative City is an idea and vision for the future of Chiang Mai. It is not a government project or policy, but the local and national governments support the initiative. Chiang Mai Creative City is an umbrella for many projects and ideas, all of which aim to develop and promote Chiang Mai. Everybody can get involved; the CMCC logo can be downloaded and used (for non-commercial purposes).
The objectives of Chiang Mai Creative City are to improve and market Chiang Mai, create income and jobs, and develop the city in a socially and environmentally sustainable way. Chiang Mai Creative City will not radically change Chiang Mai, but rather build upon its strengths and address some of the problem areas, and improving Chiang Mai for the benefit of future generations.
The CMCC Development Committee functions as a think tank, sharing/networking platform, and catalyst. It may can suggest policies, projects, and activities (and if asked coordinate and govern these), but does not implement them. Therefore, it is vital that organisations, agencies, groups, and the public support the concept and the ideas.
The Development Committee and its secretariat often help with individual projects, but as a voluntary body, not an agency, we must stress that CMCC is strictly a think tank and networking/sharing platform.
